Model Railway

Interested in butterflies? We’re not!

Not that there is anything wrong with butterflies. We think that some of them are actually quite nice to look at.

However, at the St Luke’s Railway Modellers Club, we have other interests. We reckon that trains are pretty fantastic. Okay, they may not always run on time and they occasionally fall of the tracks but the sight of 4000 horsepower racing along the tracks with an interstate freight train is hard to beat.

Just think, if we didn’t have trains we’d need plenty of horses, mind you, and we’d all have mighty fine gardens.

An XPT is way too big for that sort of malarky. Instead, we made models of them. That way we can enjoy them in our living rooms, sheds or spare bedrooms and we don’t have to explain to Cityrail why we have a backyard full of their Tangaras preserved in alcohol.

Not all of our Club members go troppo at the sight of a state-of-the-art diesel locomotive – it takes all sorts in this hobby – but a steam engine does send most of us weak at the knees.

So if you’re interested in model trains, whether it’s a small little affair in the corner of the shed or you’ve had to move into your shed as your 3 bedroom brick veneer is full of models, then check us out.

There are some great advantages to joining a model railway club, especially if you’re trying to put a train set together. You can get tons of advice by picking the brains of the other club members who will be more than just willing to pass on their wisdom. This way your train set will soon turn into a railway modelling empire and the envy of many. Then you – yes, you – can pass on your wisdom to help others too.

Sounds great, doesn’t it?

We cater for varied prototypes in HO/OO and N scales with an interest in Hornby products. As a Club we have both HO/OO and N scale layouts that are under continuous development as we look to improve our modelling as well as that of others.

We meet on the first Saturday of every month at St Luke’s Anglican Church, Galston Rd, Hornsby Heights at 3:30pm.

Some of our activities include modelling clinics and attending exhibitions with our Club Layout so that others can get some enjoyment out of our hobby as well.
