Prayer points for the Webbs:

17th October 2008.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for praying for us. Looking back at what we asked you to pray for last month (not sure that you all got that email!) we have many things to thank God for.

- Ross is now teaching at Talua Bible college on Santo and has found an enthusiastic group of students as he teaches the basics of translation. He has had more than one request for 'Bible translation to happen in my language' - exciting but we need wisdom as to how to help. Ross recovered amazingly quickly from a bad cold that he got just before going to Santo for this work - we thank God for His healing. I plan to go and join him on Tuesday for the last few days of the course.

- Our business manager and maintenance manager left a few weeks ago - that was sad and the ni-Vanuatu staff are still very much missing working with them. Anna Story has started in the business manager's position and doing a great job. We are so thankful that she is free from her normal YWAM responsibilities to help us in this way - probably till June '09.

- We are getting closer to finishing the editing of the audio files of Irumu Scripture and are thankful to those who have helped us with that. There's still a bit of touching up to do so you could pray Ross would be able to finish that - the deadline is the end of the first week of November.

- Today is the 11th anniversary of the dedication of the Irumu New Testament! Please pray that God would continue to work through His Word in that corner of PNG. We received 3 letters from our friends there this week. They had received our letters telling of our upcoming visit and are happy about it! It was so good to receive these letters and know they know. Communication to the bush can be a challenge! We'd appreciate prayer as we organise everything for that trip - both work to be done there and work left here. Lots of things to do in the next 6 weeks!

We are always keen to hear of specific things we can pray for you all,

Lyndal

Dear Friends,

Thanks for praying for the dedication of the North Tanna New Testament. We have mentioned it many times recently as well as in the past as we've had input in various ways in the project so it was especially good to attend the big event last weekend of the launching of the Book and MegaVoice audio players. Praise God for a happy, smooth running, meaningful time of celebration. Thank God with us for all He's done over the 20 year history of the translation project there, to bring it to this point. Please pray that God would move in the hearts of those who have not yet purchased copies - such that they would and that He would speak to people who are now reading His Word as they hear Him speak to them in their own language.Our year started with a bang here and we have appreciated your prayers and for God helping us through many meetings and a good 2 day workshop where we looked at ways.

It's been a very busy time for Ross and I - many visitors coming through Vila on their way to the dedication and all sorts of other things. Pray that we will have renewed energy for the next things on the calendar!

On Monday Ross plans to fly to Aneityum where our newest translation team, Bill and Grace live. He is going for the 'signing of a land agreement' - that is, the people are giving the OK for Bill and Grace to get a translation office built on a particular area of land. It's pretty important that the whole community really are in agreement over this so there are not future problems. You could pray that Ross is able to communicate well (speaking and listening) while he is there (until Thursday).

Hopefully you will have received our newsletter to fill in the rest - thanks again,

Lyndal and Ross

12th February 2008.

Good morning from a pretty humid Port Vila!

Our year started with a bang here and we have appreciated your prayers and for God helping us through many meetings and a good 2 day workshop where we looked at ways we can help the audiences of the translated Scripture to be able to read it with good and thorough understanding. We call it "Scripture Use".

It'd be great if you prayed that;

The translation teams who participated in the workshop may be able to make good use of the principles we discussed as they write Bible study and Sunday School material for their respective communities and try to work out other strategies to assist literate people to improve their skills in order to have what it takes for Bible reading.

Ross's brother Michael is booked to arrive here on Friday 15th Feb. On 17th they will travel together to Tanna island where Michael will lead a week long 'music workshop'. There will be 4 or 5 language represented amongst the participants. The idea is to help the participants to think about the music they use to worship God - how can it be more meaningful and helpful to their congregations. There will be 'theory' and practical - writing of songs and presenting them. It should be fun (!) but please pray it will be very useful too, and be a good 'arm' to the Bible translation projects that are happening on Tanna. Pray that travel arrangements for participants will go well as well as the other logistics of the workshop.

I think we have mentioned before that we are currently looking at options for getting back to PNG to revise the Irumu New Testament before reprinting it. When to go, how long is realistic to do the job, and those sort of things are questions going round in our mind right now. We'd appreciate you praying that we'd have some clear answers!!

Thanks so much. May God bless you richly as things get up and running in the parish.

Sincerely,

Lyndal and Ross

October 2007.

Hi everyone,

Another busy month has gone by since last we asked you to pray about a few things. Thanks for praying. We wrote last from Talua Bible school on another island and the course we were leading there finished up well. Two men came and asked how they could get help to start translation in their respective villages - Hmm, hard to answer that since we don't have any 'spare' people to help them at the moment.

Anyway, there are a few things coming up that we'd be happy if you mentioned to God when you pray;

On Tuesday 23rd Oct. I (Lyndal) will go to Tangoa island, a little island off the big one, Santo. I will be running a workshop for the Department of Education there similar to what I have done on other islands on previous occasions. The teaching won't be too hard - there'll be a group of school teachers who I will train in how to write materials for Year 1 students in their language, But the living might be a bit hard. I'll be the only white person there for the 5 days - I'm a bit out of practise at that sort of situation so would appreciate your prayers for 'sanity' I suppose!! And good Godly influence.

Ross has a few preaching opportunities coming up so please pray for him as he prepares and delivers the sermons.

We are thankful for a great visit with Christopher and Karen at the start of Oct. My Mum and Dad are due to visit mid September which we are really looking forward to. We've been involved in Bible translation for 25 years but it'd be good if they understood more of 'why' we have been, so we'd like you to pray that this trip might help in that regard, and that the visit would just be a very happy time for us all!

Speaking of 25 years - well, 10 anyway... 17th October was the 10th anniversary of the Irumu New Testament. Please continue to pray that God would use His Word to speak to the Irumu people and show many many more of them His Truth. We need some good ideas about when and how we can revise the New Testament and reprint it too.

May God bless you in your area of work - please let us know how to pray more specifically for you too,

Lyndal and Ross
